In 1992, Rev. Keith Woody came to the Austin area with a burden to plant a Free Will Baptist Church. With Keith and Neva came a young couple, Wes and Marsha Hood, and together they began to meet in their apartment. As the Lord blessed, they were able to rent a store front and began the Austin Free Will Baptist Church on Research Blvd in North Austin. In 1994, just two years after they began, the church began to look for property.
The first proposed location was desirable, but was also home to endangered spiders. Instead of being discouraged, they sought God and He led them to a piece of property on Cypress Creek Road. The church building was completed and the church officially changed its name to Lakehills Free Will Baptist Church.
Lakehills Church has been ministering to the Cedar Park community for twenty years. Keith, its founding pastor, remained faithful in serving Lakehills until his retirement in 2013. The foundation he laid for the church is strong. He built Lakehills on the Truth of the Word of God. He exhibited and instilled “love one another” as a pillar of the church’s culture. He envisioned a family of worship and fellowship that reached across racial and economic lines. His vision is alive and well.
Even after retiring and the passing of his main helper and cheer-leader his wife Neva Woody in 2014, brother Keith remained faithful to the Lord and the church till went home to be with the Lord and Neva in 2016.
In June, 2014, Allen Bowen began shepherding the Lakehills family. After two years of leading the \flock at Lakehills the Bowen family decided to return to their home state of Tennessee.
In the summer of 2016 brother Greg Tucker moved his family from Georgia to become to Lakehills’ new Shepard. We look forward to a long lasting tenure with the Tuckers and hope that under their leadership Lakehills will continue to grow while remain the family oriented place of worship that is and Keith Woody envisioned it to be.
Although Allen nor Greg are Keith Woody, Lakehills will continue to carry out brother Woody’s vision. We are unapologetic in our commitment to the Truth of God’s Word. We continue to believe that we should “love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and all your might” (Deut. 6:5), and that we should love one another. We continue to belong to a family of people from all walks of life, nationalities, cultures, ethnicities, and economic standing.
For over twenty years God has been faithful to Lakehills Freewill Baptist Church and we know that he will continue His faithfulness through the years to come.
